GOD CREATED A MONSTER
ROCK ALONG WITH ME,SIT IN YOUR COMFEY CHAIR,AND LISTEN TO THE SPIRIT WHO GUIDES ME.
Funny things happen when girlfriends get loose.
This past Sat., I went to a Paint and Wine class, along with five of my best girlfriends. My Good buddy Diane was absent because she is a decorative artist and paints wooden eggs. She was up to her elbows in Santas.
Having been an art teacher for 4 years ,as well as a decorative artist, I decided to go along with the gang who had never painted before. Needless to say, we laughed, played, and had an outrageous girlfriend afternoon.
Today I was going through some of the things that I had written over the years. I found this very colorful review of a girlfriend day that I spent with my dear friend Gracie.
Many times when we go out, we do lunch. Then we go to Target to laugh ourselves silly at greeting cards. Shopping at JoAnn Fabrics or Hobby Lobby is also a must.
I wrote this story about 8 yrs. ago. It was a Sunday afternoon. She was struggling with a dysfunctional marriage. While I, on the other hand, had a great deal of independence, due to Mr. Moo Cow’s work schedule.
This story is filled with alliteration, and needs to be shared.
HERE GOES…..
Purple and pink wings, green antennae ,six legs, and a tiny red body with black spots …..This monster is often seen in the Hilliard/Dublin area , laughing, playing ,doing random acts of kindness, and leaving their subjects breathless.
On several occasions, the mouths of bystanders drop open in disbelief, as the monster crawls by. Their eyes are a display of shock and awe.
Coming from the monster’s belly can be heard giggles, songs, peels of laughter, and sometimes tears.
There are two parts to this creature. One side God gave the name Extravagant Grace. She is His precious ladybug. The other He has given the name Fearless Faith. She is a former cocoon tenant, who has learned to soar above many perils in her life.
Both love to minister to women as they playfully flit from person to person. When God designed them, He made them so much alike that they finish each other’s sentences.
Last Sunday was an unusual day, for the Monster was on the loose. Gracie was trying to fight a lifetime of guilt from her 85 yr. old mother. Her mom had left 35 messages on her machine over the weekend.
Grandma lives in Willow Brooke Retirement Center and suffers from dementia. Her continuous complaint is that she never sees her daughter. Oh! Did I forget to mention that Gracie is the Activities Director at Willow Brooke, and sees her mom 5 days a week? You get the picture.
Needless to say we needed to play. Lunch at Panera and a girlfriend trip were calling our names. After solving all of our family issues over our café mochas, we headed for JoAnn Fabrics. Might I remind you that it is Halloween, and there are lots of playful things to inspire our mania. Let me tell you, we had fun!
Trying on masks, wigs and hats… pushing the buttons on every animated toy….we were on the edge of the ridiculous. The creature began to roar with hilarity!
AS Gracie rounded the corner, I heard her exclaim,” Oh Girlfriend, come see what I’ve found!” There they were displayed in all of their glory- a ladybug costume for her and a butterfly costume for me.
We were ecstatic, and her mood was lightened. On the way to the car we were laughing. However, Gracie still had to face the albatross around her neck daily. A mentally ill mother, that her skills as a loving daughter lacked a great deal, inundated her. She was still fighting the guilt. I decided that enough was enough!
As she excused herself to return the cart, I began my strategy. I bent down and poured myself into my butterfly costume, antennae and all.
As she neared the car, I jumped out and began running around the car singing:
Don’t know what it is that makes me love you so.
I only know I’m never gonna let you go. God started something, can’t you see? That ever since we’ve met ,you’ve had a hold on me. It’s His fault it is true. I only wanna be with you!
Not to my dismay, by any means, there were two young girls standing there watching us. As Gracie dissolved against car in tears of laughter, our audience began to chime in on the hilarity.
“I wish that I had my camera!”, exclaimed one of the young observers. As the other girl wiped the tears of laughter from her eyes, she exclaimed, ”The girls at work are never going to believe this one!”
I ended the scene by making the following statement in my Elmer Fudd voice. Thumtimes when thith monster gets loothe…we are verwee, verwee, scarweeee.
Yes, when God brought the two of us together….He created a Monster!
May the ridiculous atmosphere that you create revive your Spirit with joy and happiness…….regardless of what you are going through.
Love and prayers,
Granny
