As I prepare my Cup of Fancy, in Granny’s Teapot (Simpson and Vail Tea Co. Lilac Bouquet), I think about how blessed I am.
MY palette of yellow and orange speak of joy and laughter.
Granny was the Matriarch of Faith, in our family. She moved in with my family in 1963, after my grandfather passed. She lived with us for 17 years, until she passed in 1980.
I was the youngest of four, and grandchild #13. As my siblings were out being Teeny Boppers, I was at Granny’s feet, listening to stories of faith, miracles, childbirth without doctors, two World Wars, and the strength and courage she passed on to me. She instilled in my eldest sister and I the following:”With God’s help you can BECOME….and NEVER GIVE UP.”
However, one of the greatest gifts she ever gave me, was laughter…and how to laugh during tragedy.
I had a sister that passed at 27 years old, in 1971, due to a freak childbirth mishap. The infant also passed.
Sitting at the kitchen table, we’d cry…then Granny would tell an hilarious story involving her. We’d start laughing, until we cried. The cycle continued for hours, with family all around.
Granny kept saying, think of her gifts, and the silly stories. Prime, simple example; my brother was 3yrs old. Somehow, he climbed out of the first floor window, and my sister at 4, was holding on to his hands. He was screaming for help.
“Hold on, I’m going for mom!” Plop..down fell my brother into the bushes!
God can tweak your grief; laughter, friends, and family can help to heal your grief.
Whenever I’d have a “Boo Hoo,” teenage drama, she’d always comment,”Laughter is the Best Medicine.”
ABBA, I praise you for Granny and my Mom. I was so blessed to be born into a Christian Family, even though we were broken.
My advice to all of you: whatever illness, problem, or tragedy you are going through, find a time to chill, be still with God, and laugh. He will bring joy and laughter to your spirit, I promise. My God Squad…my Bible Study Sisters…light up my life with fun and laughter. There are 3 widows within our group.
NOTE: every night before I go to bed, I watch…EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND…and laugh my myself silly. It relaxes me, and allows me to see laughter within dysfunction. Trust me, we all have experienced that within our growth as a Christian.
Thank You, Father, for blessing me this day.
Proverbs 17:22 A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit, dries up the bones.
Proverbs 31:25 She is clothed with strength and dignity, she can laugh at the days to come.
Matthew 11:29-30 Come to Me, all of you who are burdened, weary, and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
