Being a mother of 3 sons, I had often longed for a daughter. As a Kindergarten Teacher in the Jonathan Alder Schools, I often bonded with certain families. Well, God answered my prayer.
My former student and now high school sophomore, Skye Bissell, is the daughter that I always prayed for.
We have kept in close contact throughout the years. Trust me. Someday, Skye will publish her own teen devotional.
Please, welcome my God-Daughter Skye Bissell as this week’s Spotlight Writer.
TAKE OFF YOUR CROWNS DRAMA QUEENS
MY TAKE
By
Skye Bissell
Being a 16-year-old girl in today’s society, has its perks, but it also has its downsides. Drama has been a whirlwind ever since First Grade. It evolves into a big mess; by the time you reach Jr. High and High School.
As a young student, I made friends with all of the boys in my class. I was a Tomboy, and ran from
the girlie drama. I even started my sports career playing flag football in First Grade.
You guessed it! I was horribly made fun of, by the girls. However, being around the boys, there were never jealousies and random quarrels. They were my true friends.
Growing up I was the only girl along with 2 older cousins and my brother. So I guess you could say that I grew up tough, and could handle myself.
All of the girls loved the hair, make-up, nails etc., but not me. I loved playing outside, wrestling
and ,often my orneriness got me into trouble.
In Kindergarten, I made a lifetime bond with my teacher. If you would have told me, that as an adult, I would have many of her personality traits, I would never have believed you. As a kid, I would have made a snarky comment, rolled my eyes, and said, ”Yeah Right!”
LOL! I was also quite outspoken as a child. When Mrs. C. asked me at Kindergarten Screening if I knew any letters and sounds, I burst out with, ”That’s your job!” She was laughing hysterically as she informed my mom of some of my responses.
God placed “Mama Cutler in my life for a reason. She has helped me through some of the
hardest times of my life. From my grandmother’s death, to guiding me though all of this high school drama, she’s been there for me.
She always told me the following: “Skye Bird, you remind me a lot of myself. You’re going to do great things in your life. You’re strong and show a lot of leadership! Pick true friends that will nurture you, and stay away from the fake drama queens.”
Mrs. C. has always taught me about being true to myself, and never allowing anyone to change my strength of spirit. This verse says it all. In fact, the Bible verse hits the nail on the head.
Romans12: 2 Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is good, pleasing, and the perfect will of God.
HEAVENLY FATHER:
Thank you for my loving parents, grandparents, and teachers who have given me guidance throughout the years. As I see other students in need, help me to peacefully guide them to you.
Strong in Spirit,
Skye Bissell
