HOLD ON TO THE WISDOM OF YOUR HERITAGE

Scripture James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

My sister and I have come up with 5 things that reflect the lives and philosophies of our Mother and Grandmother. We call them “ The Granny’s 5 L’s:” Love, Live, Learn, Laugh, and Leave a Legacy.

LOVE

The scripture in the box says it all: ”Love is patient. Love is kind etc.” Another scripture that really hits close to home is from Proverbs: A friend loves at all times.”

I could go on and on about this topic. To me it means giving your heart away unconditionally. One loves family, friends, and colleagues.

However, Jesus teaches us to love the ‘unlovable’. This includes those of different races, sexual preferences, political views, and faiths. We may not agree with them and their views; however, we love them because they are part of God’s creation.

It’s so hard to love the unlovable; therefore, it’s society that deems them so. My husband and I both have taken people under our wings, that others in society wouldn’t consider helping. It has nothing to do with us.

It’s about being obedient to the One that lives within us. We both have heartfelt concern for the welfare of those that are weary and burdened. My man and I can both say, ”Been there! Done that!” at one point in our lives.

Here is one of the greatest examples of love in a friendship. Thirty-four years ago our youngest son was born on May 13, 1984. Eight months after his birth, I wound up needing a hysterectomy.

I can remember saying to Sandy (Boundless Trust) tearfully,” I have an 8 month old infant and two ornery boys, plus a household. There is no way I’m moving in with THE Mother-in-law! Casually she looked at me and said, ”No Tears! God’s got it!”

“ Oh! Sure! Like God’s gonna send an angel! I know you’ll help out but….”

“Crazy woman, hush! I’m moving in for 2 months!”

Well let me tell ya folks that was love personified.

Lord: Make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury pardon. Where there is despair, let there be hope. Where there is sadness let there be joy. Thank you Father, for the precious words of St Francis of Assisi. These words were taught to me as a child, and have carried me through the hills and valleys of life. Amen
