Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. Plans not to harm you. Plans for hope and a future.
If you’ve ever corrected a major issue in your life, you come back stronger than ever. Then God will use you to help others fighting the same battle.
I was a Kindergarten Teacher for 30 years in a country bumpkin town near Columbus, Ohio. My school was in the south end of our district. More times than not, the folks in Heartville were looked down upon because they were considered not the elite group.
The people were not well educated. However, they had the biggest, most loving hearts one could ever hope for. I’m sure that you have figured out by now, that the real name of the town is not Heartville. The alias describes the people to a T.
Those of us that taught at the HV School, absolutely loved the kids, and the towns people. We never placed ourselves above them.
However, due to the poverty level, drugs, and bad choices made, the long arm of the law was ever present.
I want to tell you a story about a former student who will always remain close to my heart. A kid who finally listened to God, asked for help, and made it!
I’m going to refer to my student as RR, because he was Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in my Kindergarten Xmas Play. RR was so Stinkn Cute at 5 years old. He had looks, personality, and was always one who attracted attention. He was a born actor/leader.
Even when he was five, I realized that whomever he surrounded himself with, would either make or break his life.
Unfortunately, as I expected, RR submitted to drugs and finally heroine. I heard that he had done jail time, and I seriously prayed that God would touch his heart and heal him.
I had recently attended a baby shower of one of my favorite girls from Heartville. Someone at my table pointed out to me that the lady across the way was RR’s pregnant woman…..hopefully to be his wife.
My informant told me that RR was out of prison, well on the mend, and beginning a new life.
My heart was overjoyed. However, in my estimation, a lot remained to be seen, first hand by me.
Last week I was walking into Krogers. I saw this cute little guy, walking out with flowers and balloons. AWWWW! I thought to myself! He’s got a special occasion.
As he was walking towards me he opened his arms to gather me in. I stopped and finally recognized him. “RR my little RR!” I exclaimed.
He gave me the biggest hug! “I have a wife, and a baby, and I’ve never been happier! He was bubbling over as he revealed his story and triumph!
I always talked to my K kids, as if they were my own. “RR, God has given you a second chance. It’s up to you to make the best of the gifts that God has blessed you with. If you don’t my cute little RR, I’ll come get you and kick your butt!”
He promised me that he would be the best husband/father anyone could ever hope for.
I can do all things through Christ who gives me the strength. Phillippians4:13
Reach for the stars RR…. GOD HAS GIVEN YOU A SECOND CHANCE.
