PUFF FLUFFS

This is one of Granny’s most profound quotes. Proverbs 16:18-19 Pride goes before disaster, and a haughty spirit before a fall. It is better to be humble with the poor, than to share plunder with the proud.  I heard Granny say this to us diligently.

As you well know by now,  it was Granny and Mom who formed my faith, spiritualism, and character. They were my role models of wisdom.

All you have to do is turn on any of the award shows from Hollywood, and you’ll see what I mean. There are many who receive their blessings and Praise God for whom they’ve become. However, anyone with common sense, can figure out that media in the present, is not mentally healthy and effects our nations youth with negative truths.

I can recall vividly as a young girl, my mom would comment.” There’s a lot of pride in that Women’s Group at church. I don’t fit in with the so-called “Big Shot Group.” So, my mom wasn’t involved in a lot of church activities.

Her youngest daughter was exactly the same. I didn’t fit in with PUFF FLUFFS. In high school, I lived in the country. I was really careful about the relationships I formed and how much I got involved.

My dear friend Gracie coined the  following phrase: Puff Fluffs….those who are Vogue on the outside, and Vague on the inside.  That is a perfect description of a prideful character. It positively is not the scenario in which I was raised.

My life reflects a typical circumstance, in which I removed myself from a group of Puff Fluffs.

Upon graduation, I attended  OU my freshman year. Through the urgency of my brother, I joined a sorority.  Biggest mistake of my life! Some are great, if that’s your cup of tea. It certainly wasn’t for me.

My sophomore year, I transferred to Wilmington College. It’s a small country school between Cincy and Columbus. It’s the best decision that I ever made. I’m still close to my roomie after 45 years. I met my farmer husband my Junior Year. I hung around with good, down home friends.

Pride can rear its ugly head within many venues. Bullying in school is one of the most severe scenarios. Pride can reveal itself with the following circumstances: Your physicality, personality, family, career, athletics. The list could go on and on.

Show me some proud fools, and this girl will run from them. When you see certain shows like Mean Girls…it’s a perfect example. My opinion….Reality TV is a nightmare!

Look for your gifts. Once you realize what they are, use that profound work ethic, that God gave you to develop them.  Then Praise God for what he’s done in your life.

There’s nothing that brings tears to my eyes more than a TV personality/athlete, who gives thanks to his Lord and Savior, for what he has accomplished…THROUGH HIM!

Book of Sirach 3:17-24 “My son, conduct your affairs with humility, and you will be loved more than a giver of gifts. Humble yourself the more, and you will find mercy in the sight of God. For great is the power of the Lord; by the humble He is glorified. What is too sublime for you, do not see; do not reach into things that are hidden from you. What is committed to you, pay heed to; what is hidden is not your concern. In matters beyond you do not mettle, when you have been shown more than you can understand. Indeed, many are the conceits of human beings; evil imaginations lead them astray.”

Give to others, love others, and pride will bury itself.
