THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING

Twice in one week! Are you kidding me? Farmer Thomas….get a drift will Ya? LOLOL! I just loved it, when the black and white moo moos used to initiate all types of exercise for this farmwife/teacher.

Farmer Thomas used to say, “I don’t want to teach you how to milk. If I did, I might expect you to engage in this festivity.” My answer was always a cute one.” I’ll milk, once you get busy in my classroom.”

You guessed it ! I never milked. He never got involved in my profession.

You’ve already been informed about my bovine herding throughout our 44 years of marriage.

In June of 2015, he sold the dairy herd. I thought to myself. ”Great job SuZQ! This fun activity is at its completion.” NOT!!!!

I’m finding that at 67 yrs. old, I can’t run with a bad knee. My man, at 68 has had a hip and ankle replacement. He’s sturdy, strong, but can’t run. However, twice last week, I had to prove that there was still somewhat of an athlete, along with the ridiculous, within these old bones.

I got the first dreaded phone call last Tues.

Come on, folks. What are my 2 favorite words? “Cows out!” Now that he has begun a beef herd, nothing has changed. This episode of herding bovine wasn’t so bad. I did my hand waving, blocking, closing gates etc., and the problem was solved.

Not so easy, was the episode on Fri. Standing at the kitchen window, I saw Cutie The Calf saunter by. “Let’s Go, Pa!,” were my words of confirmation. Out the door we flew in a cloud of dust and a mighty, ”Hi! Ho! Silver!”

This time, it was all about outsmarting the fox! He ran down the side driveway, down the road, and was halfway to our son’s house.

Cowgirl Susie was hot on his trail…until… she flew in the air with the greatest of ease. I tripped, flipped and rolled into the ditch. The good thing is that I was in a position to Head’ Em off at the pass!

Limping and waving my hands, Cutie got turned around and headed for home.

Guess we need to get an invisible fence for Cutie, as well as Petie and Sadie.

PS……LOLOL….. It’s Sat Feb. 24…. It only took 5 minutes this morn to herd one. He called a few minutes ago and I yelled ,”I’m not herding that &^%$#@ COW!” Laughing he said,” Just wanted to tell you, I love you….and the twins and dad are coming for lunch!   LOLOL! Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz, Oh what a relief it is!
